HAMILTON COUNTY
HOMELAND SECURITY

Hamilton County Emergency Management serves as a facilitator for response agencies to discuss and plan for Homeland Security. In many ways, terrorism is similar to the other natural and manmade risks that we address in our all Hazard Emergency Plan. One major difference is the terrorist goal of inflicting mass casualties. Hamilton County Emergency Management serves as liaison for local, state and federal response agencies to share information to prevent terrorism and facilitate planning and preparation for response and recovery should a terrorist event happen.

Hamilton County Emergency Management also serves as the host agency for the other 9 counties in Southeast Tennessee which make up the Tennessee Homeland Security District Three. Our agency serves as a similar role of coordinator and facilitator for communication and planning for the District Three Homeland Security preparedness.

In April 2003 the Hamilton County Commission adopted a resolution establishing the Hamilton County Office of Homeland Security operating within the Department of Hamilton County Emergency Services.

The objective of the local office of Homeland Security is to coordinate efforts to prevent an act of terrorism, to plan and prepare for response and recovery should an act of terrorism occur in our community.  Hamilton County serves as the host county for the 10 counties included in Tennessee Homeland Security District 3.
