  Billing and Financial Services

Hamilton County EMS is funded through County general revenue. Charges for service are assessed to the patient in an attempt to recover operating costs and enable the Service to be self-sufficient. Charges are determined based on cost-per-call figures and periodically adjusted as annual expenditures indicate.

Responsibility for all EMS billing falls under the oversight of the County Finance Department. The EMS Billing Office consists of six EMS Billing Clerks and one Billing Supervisor. They compile all ambulance charges, generated within our computer network, and distribute invoices to responsible parties. They work with all major insurance carriers and provide third party billing.

Hamilton County is contracted with two collection agencies that provide support with past-due accounts after all measures of collection have been exhausted. However, we do realize that a patient's finances, especially after an emergency event, require special considerations. Therefore, we will work with our clients to find the best means available to satisfy their payment needs. Billables for Fiscal Year 2007-2008 are estimated to be @$20,000,000.

Any questions about our Billing Office or fiscal matters may be referred to Kim Carter, EMS Billing Supervisor, at KimC@exch.hamiltontn.gov.
