Real Estate
If you think your property values are too high, contact the Assessor of Property's Office to discuss the particular situation. If an understanding or satisfactory conclusion is not reached, the property owner may appeal to the Hamilton County Board Of Equalization.

In an informal hearing, the Hamilton County Board Of Equalization will hear the property owner, or the property owner's representative, analyze sales information of comparative property and data for the Assessor of Property and the property owner and then make a decision. If the property owner is not satisfied with the decision, an appeal can be filed with the State Board of Equalization and further in Chancery Court if necessary.

Personal Property
Personal property taxes are levied on temporary or moveable property such as furnishings, office machines and computers, machinery and vehicles used by a business or profession in their operation. The tax is calculated based upon information provided to the Assessor by the business owner on a form titled "Tangible Personal Property Schedule"

The Assessor's office should be notified immediately if the business is no longer in operation or if the personal property has been sold. All documentation should be submitted in writing to the attention of the personal property department.
