WWTA in Lookout Mountain

Commissioner Ansley Moses, Lookout Mountain

Located high above the City of Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain has deep historical roots to the Civil War. Among some of the significant activities that occurred on the mountain was the “Battle Above the Clouds” which broke the rebel siege in Chattanooga.

When rebuilding began after the war, economic development based on tourism began to draw more and more visitors to the area. Later, Adolph Ochs purchased land from some of the founding families and donated it to the federal government to add to the Chickamauga Military Park.

Today, Lookout Mountain utilizes the lessons learned from the past as it looks forward to the future, welcoming thousands of visitors each year to her many attractions.

According to the 2000 census, the 1.3 mile city is home to 2000 residents.
