WWTA in Signal Mountain

Commissioner Bill Lusk, Signal Mountain

The town of Signal Mountain has a rich history beginning with Native Americans who used Brady Point to send smoke signals and later by Civil War soldiers who also used the area to send strategic messages. In 1873, Signal Mountain became a place where many of the area’s wealthy fled to get away from cholera. They found healing in the cool air and pure water.

The Tennessee legislature chartered the town in 1919 and over the years has seen the population continue to grow to over 4,700 as of the 2000 Census.

Signal Mountain residents enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities as well as cultural and civic opportunities for one of Tennessee’s best small towns.
