Benefits of Working for Hamilton County Government
Employee Assistance Program
When employees and their families have serious personal problems that affect their personal lives or job performance, they may need professional counseling.
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) can provide confidential, professional assessment and referral to qualified counselors who may be able to help.
Employees may use this program to assist with the following problems: Coping problems, Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Emotional problems, Financial problems, Legal problems, Marriage and family problems, and Workplace problems.
Hamilton County Government provides you with up to three visits to an EAP Counselor at no cost to you. A trained counselor will help you identify the problem and develop a plan of action which may involve further referrals.
Dental Coverage
Hamilton County offers its employees three dental plans, two through Cigna Dental and one through Sun Life Dental.
The two Cigna Dental plans include most dentists in the Chattanooga area and are basically PPO
plans with deductibles and coinsurance, while the Sun Life Dental plan is a dental HMO with a limited network of dentists and preset co-pays.
Deferred Compensation Plan
Hamilton County employees are eligible to participate in an optional tax-deferred retirement savings plan known as a 457 plan. Contributions to this plan
can be made through regular payroll deductions. Participants have the ability to direct their contributions among many investment options.
Flexible Benefits Plan
The County offers a Section 125 Cafeteria Plan or Flexible Spending Plan, which allows employees to pay for certain medical and day care expenses with before-tax dollars.
The plan includes a Flex Claim Card allowing employees to pay, at the point of service, for eligible medical expenses, eliminating the need to submit a claim by paper, fax, or web.
Short-term or Long-term Disability Coverage
The County offers its employees two optional products to protect their income if they become disabled. The short-term disability policy begins paying
after fourteen consecutive days (two weeks) of disability, and continues paying for up to six months, as long as the employee remains disabled for a covered disability.
The long-term disability policy begins paying after 180 consecutive days (six months) of disability, and may continue paying up to age 65, as long as
the employee meets the definition of disability.
Credit Unions
Hamilton County employees are also eligible to join Southeast Financial Credit Union and TVFCU Credit Union.
