Committees the Commissioner serves on:


Finance and Budget Committee

Responsible for county spending, discretionary funds, and all insurance matters. Coordinates budget preparation with County Mayor, the Finance Department and all Commissioners. Works with the Finance Department and County Auditor throughout the year in all matters concerning county finances. Purchasing procedures are also subject to review by this committee. A minimum of three (3) Commissioners, one of whom is the Committee Chairman or designee, may conduct the meeting.


Legal and Legislative Committee

Responsible for legal matters involving county government, including relations between the Mayoral and Legislative branches, rules and regulations of the Commission, and State legislative matters. Works with County Attorney and other appropriate persons or agencies.


Health, Human Services, Personnel, Arts, Recreation, and Public Relations Committee (Alternate)

Deals with all health services. Works with all health related activities, including the County Health Department, the Regional Health Council, highway and other safety programs, and any other health related agencies, to assist in good programs. Works with the Human Services Department, especially in the area of community social services programs.

Responsible for all personnel relations, benefits, grievances, and handbooks. Works with Personnel Office to see that all employees understand personnel policies, benefits to which they are entitled, etc.

Works with other county governmental agencies in public relations and providing public information. Responsible for overseeing recreational facilities, reviewing and making recommendations on county recreation projects. Coordinates county government involvement with the art’s agencies within the community to assist in improving the quality of life in this area.


Diversity and Equity Committee (Alternate)

Plan information sessions that promote awareness of diversity and equity related issues. Identify and recommend strategies for addressing benefits, as well as, barriers to diversity and equity. Formulate recommendations that will assist in enhancing and maintaining a diverse and equitable environment in county government.


Delinquent Tax Property Special Committee (Chairperson)

To approve the sale of delinquent tax property as presented by the Real Property Division. Responsible for legal matters involving county government, including relations between the Executive and Legislative branches, rules and regulations of the Commission, and State legislative matters. Works with County Attorney and other appropriate persons or agencies.


Legislative Staff


Patricia Mitchell, Legislative Administrator

Responsible for County Commissioners' scheduling appointments, conference calls, and meetings. Follows up on complaints and concerns from constituents for Commissioners and manages the Commission Office (which includes staff, budget, payroll, and purchasing)


Melinda Volker, Legislative Assistant

Responsible for correspondence, creative writing, and agenda items for Commissioners. The legislative assistant also provides support to the administrator.


Bridget Chatman, Administrative Assistant

Responsible for front desk incoming calls, schedules meeting, maintain database and online calendar, provides project support, handles mailings, files as needed and makes appointments. Assists Legislative Administrator and Legislative Assistant as requested and performs other duties as assigned.
