Committees the Commissioner serves on:


Legal, Legislative, Administrative, and Personnel Committee

Alternate

Responsible for reviewing legal matters involving county government; oversees the rules and regulations of the Commission as well as the County’s compliance with all governing rules and regulations; fosters the relationships between the Mayoral and Legislative branches; the State Legislature and related matters, and other elected officials. Works with County Attorney and other appropriate persons or agencies.

Responsible for oversight of all personnel matters, including relations, benefits, grievances, and handbooks. Works with Human Resources to see that all employees understand personnel policies and benefits to which they are entitled, etc.

Responsible for legal matters involving tax delinquent properties acquired by and/or sold to County government.


Public Health and Public Relations Committee

Chairperson

Addresses all health services. Works with all health related activities, including the County Health Department, the Regional Health Council, highway and other safety programs, and any other health related agencies, to assist in the development, promoting and maintaining of good health, and the providing of public information. Works with the Human Services Department, especially in the area of community social services programs. Works with other county governmental agencies in public relations.


Arts, Education, and Recreation Committee

Monitors the Hamilton County School system, consults with the Superintendent and board members to assess needs, make suggestions and support actions to develop and maintain high quality educational programs for all children in Hamilton County’s public education system.

Responsible for overseeing recreational facilities, reviewing and making recommendations on county recreation projects. Coordinates county government involvement with the art’s agencies within the community to assist in improving the quality of life in this area.


Security, Corrections, Emergency Operations and Responders Committee

Alternate

Responsible for security as it relates to all County buildings and property, Emergency Operations of the County to include the Emergency Operations Center, First Responders and the various Volunteer Fire Departments. Coordinates with the Corrections Advisory Board to assist in areas concerning prison population and the development of a vocational educational program for inmates. Serves as the liaison between the Sheriff’s Office and the Commissioners. Also provides general oversight of the Judicial Commissioner’s Program, and works closely with the courts system on the work release program. To also assist with technology improvements.


Diversity and Equity Committee

Plan information sessions that promote awareness of diversity and equity related issues. Identify and recommend strategies for addressing benefits, as well as, barriers to diversity and equity. Formulate recommendations that will assist in enhancing and maintaining a diverse and equitable environment in County government. Coordinates with the County’s Equal Employment Opportunity Officer on various employment matters.


Legislative Staff


Patricia Mitchell, Legislative Administrator

Responsible for County Commissioners' scheduling appointments, conference calls, and meetings. Follows up on complaints and concerns from constituents for Commissioners and manages the Commission Office (which includes staff, budget, payroll, and purchasing)


Melinda Volker, Legislative Assistant

Responsible for correspondence, creative writing, and agenda items for Commissioners. The legislative assistant also provides support to the administrator.


Bridget Chatman, Administrative Assistant

Responsible for front desk incoming calls, schedules meeting, maintain database and online calendar, provides project support, handles mailings, files as needed and makes appointments. Assists Legislative Administrator and Legislative Assistant as requested and performs other duties as assigned.
